Thermopolium, l’antesignano dei moderni fast food.
Il Thermopolium, un luogo adibito alla ristorazione veloce, nato all’epoca dell’antica Roma può. senza dubbio, ritenersi l’antesignano degli odierni e moderni fast food. Dunque coloro che pensavano che questi locali fossero stati ideati da Ronald McDonald, un clown vestito di rosso e giallo che serviva saporiti panini di vari gusti, agli avventori di turno, si sbagliavano di grosso. Le cosiddette tavole calde, infatti, ebbero origine ai tempi dell’Impero Romano. Anticamente le classi meno abbienti, in casa, non possedevano delle cucine bene attrezzate, o fornelli adatti, oppure tante stoviglie e pentole in cui poter cucinare. Quindi per ovviare a queste difficoltà sorsero i Thermopolium, dei veri e propri fast food che servivano cibi caldi e veloci, peraltro, alla portata di tutte le tasche. Nei banconi di questi antichi luoghi di ristorazione si trovavano delle anfore o delle giare nelle quali erano contenuti i pasti caldi che i clienti erano soliti consumare al banco. In realtà il termine greco Thermopolium sta a significare, appunto un posto in cui è possibile consumare qualcosa di caldo. Nel corso di recenti scavi archeologici in uno di questi fast food ante litteram, è stato ritrovato un sacchetto con mille monete antiche, probabilmente l’incasso del Thermopolium, il che dimostra la grande popolarità di questa sorta di tavola calda.

In reality the Greek term Thermopolium means, precisely, a place where it is possible to consume something warm. During recent archaeological excavations in one of these fast food ante litteram, a bag with a thousand ancient coins was found, probably the collection of the Thermopolium, which demonstrates the great popularity of this sort of diner.
