Il libro ha come protagonista Virdasche, un Osco sfuggito per miracolo ad un’incursione dei feroci Hyrpini, che inizierà un lungo pellegrinaggio verso Occidente, che lo porterà a conoscere gli Elleni, gli Etruschi ed a vivere esperienze di grande impatto emotivo. Stefano Cortese, a soli 29 anni, è già al terzo romanzo storico pubblicato dopo “La miglior compagnia” del 2014 e “Virgilio o la terra del tramonto del 2015. Tuttavia la sua formazione di scrittore inizia con una raccolta di poesie, dal titolo “Alla murena e al cielo di pioggia”, pubblicata nel 2009. E ne L’Osco, è infatti evidente l’utilizzo di un lessico immaginifico, estremamente ricercato, sia nella descrizione dettagliata dei luoghi che del profilo psicologico dei personaggi. ”
“Ne l’Osco, il lettore vivrà la contrapposizione di due distinte visioni del mondo. Da una parte, quella animista degli Osci, caratterizzata dalla intensa osmosi con la natura e dal totale abbandono al volere del Fato; dall’altra abbiamo il feroce antropocentrismo degli Elleni. Gli uni vedono l’oblio come necessario ed inesorabile. Gli altri, gloriosi ed infaticabili custodi della memoria, lo vivono con terrore.“, sottolinea Stefano Cortese.

The Oscan, a historical novel by Stefano Cortese, (published by Valtrend Editore).
The book has as its protagonist Virdasche, an Oscan escaped by miracle to a raid of the ferocious Hyrpini, who will begin a long pilgrimage to the West, which will lead him to know the Hellenes, the Etruscans and to live experiences of great emotional impact. Stefano Cortese, only 29 years old, is already at the third historical novel published after “The best company” in 2014 and “Virgil or the land of sunset in 2015. However, his training as a writer begins with a collection of poems, entitled” To the moray and the rainy sky”, published in 2009. And in The Oscan, it is in fact evident the use of an imaginative lexicon, extremely sought after, both in the detailed description of the places and in the psychological profile of the characters.

On the one hand, that of the Oscans animist, characterized by intense osmosis with nature and by total abandonment to the will of Fate; on the other we have the ferocious anthropocentrism of the Hellenes. Some see oblivion as necessary and inexorable. The other, glorious and indefatigable guardians of memory, live it with terror”, emphasizes Stefano Cortese.
